Kestrel – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

I can see a male Kestrel in the treetops as the sun sets near Liddington Castle.

It’s forty years since I saw one and noted it down in my nature notebooks:

I can still tell it’s a male Kestrel by the size, the grey head and the grey tail.

It’s perched in a tree just like that one was forty years ago.

And I still know that its scientific name is Falco tinnunculus.
