Woodpigeon – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

Forty years ago I was very excited to see a fat Woodpigeon and record it in my childhood nature notebooks. I was twelve years old.

Today I’m still thrilled to see one. This time I photograph it.

I know that there are over 10 million of them in the UK, but they’re still a great thrill to see.

On Westray, it makes sense that they are best seen at Fribo wood amongst the tall trees. I’d love to see them there.
