White Clover – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

Forty years ago I was busy lying in the grass looking at the clover. White clover is beautiful and highly productive because it has a special property of being able to take Nitrogen from the air and ‘fix’ it so it is able to grow more prolifically. Here’s my nature notebook from 17 October 1976:

On Westray it is everywhere.

I love its leaves with the heart-shaped points.
