Swallows – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

Swallows seem unearthly. Their flight is so elegant, so fast and so controlled they seem as if they inhabit a different world. Forty years ago when I was a 12 year old boy I made the following entry in my nature notebooks:

The Swallows raise a fine brood here at Einar. Here’s a large family on the window ledge, practising their elegant flight.
