Shore crab – forty years ago in my nature notebooks

Forty years ago I was a 12 year old boy and was busy writing my nature notebooks. I made detailed drawings of common prawns and sea potatoes. I measured, studied and contemplated the behaviour of all forms of wildlife. Here’s my entry from forty years ago today 19 August 1976 on finding a live shore crab:

Walking along the beaches on Westray I see a carapace. Looking closer and it appears to have ten ‘nicks’ on the front edge of the shell. Could it be?
