Ritual and Tradition

Food is a subject of much ritual and tradition, no more so than when I’m on Westray. There’s coffee and cake at the Wheeling Steen Gallery. There’s fish and chips at Jack’s Chippy. There’s my bread fresh from the bread machine. And then there’s the ferry. The Orkney Ferries Cafeteria menu from Westray to mainland Orkney (and back again) has an extensive menu. It has ‘Hot beverages’ and ‘Cold drinks,’ on the menu. They don’t, however, sell any hot drinks or cold beverages, which is a shame.
£1 for tea. £2.20 for a bacon roll with more bacon than roll. 40p for a Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer.
Ritual and tradition.
