Trivia – where three roads meet

The scientific name of the beautiful Groatie Buckie is Trivia arctica. Its name comes from the Latin trivia, the plural of trivium “a ‎place where three roads meet”. The Romans used the word for any public place, and then for anything commonplace. A beginner’s course at university was known as a Trivium and so the word became used to mean anything basic or simple.

We’re beachcombing and Groatie Buckies are anything but commonplace. It takes us over an hour and we manage to find 30 of them.
