Westray Connections 2015 – The Pierowall Hotel Sessions

Friday night at The Pierowall Hotel and the bar is rammed. We’ve been there for hours already eating the Orkney beef in Guinness pie. Thankfully they’ve got a cold Dark Island from Orkney Breweries to go with it. The music is due to start at 9:00pm but the sound gear is only just arriving and there’s more talking and drinking than playing. At 10:00pm it starts, and it’s well worth the wait.

The greatest point of the evening was watching Billy Jolly play a short tune on the mouth organ and watching Alice Tait’s face full of concentration as she worked it out on the fiddle and the rest of the band joined in. Classic.
