Wheatears in the new stone age

I’m sitting in a stone-age house; the new stone age, when the climate was warmer and people began to settle rather than having nomadic lives. It’s only a few thousand years since humans were wearing skins, using flint tools and trying their hands at growing crops and domesticating wild animals for the first time. I’m sitting in the ruins of a 5,000 year old house, with its stone sink, stone fireplace, stone furniture and stone walls. One of the paving slabs has a crack in it and in the crack a Wheatear has made its nest. The Wheatear is wary of me and circles nervously with a juicy morsel in its mouth. I retreat and it disappears under the stones to feed its young.

Wheatear

I wonder who sat in this house before me and what they thought of the world.
